Two killed, 13 injured at party in Chicago’s South Side

Police responded to the report of the shooting at 4:40 am (local time) at a towing company where the party took place.

On the morning of March 14, gunfire erupted at a party on Chicago’s South Side, killing two people and injuring 13 others.

Police said officers responded to the shooting at a towing company at 4:40 am (local time). Jose Zara, a department spokesman, said in a statement that those shots were between the ages of 20 and 44.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said seven of the injured were taken to hospitals in critical condition Chicago Sun-Times. Others went to hospitals on their own or were taken by acquaintances, which was complicated by the exact count of the injured, officials said, who initially reported that 10 people were shot, but later a total of 12 and then 15 people were raised.

Immediately after shooting the red and black balloons and a shoe was on the ground outside the business Chicago tribune Reported. It said that the blood stain was also visible on the concrete.

The Tribune cited preliminary information in a police report that said the shooting may be gang-related. According to the police report, a woman was shot in the head, who was found dead outside the building, and a 39-year-old man was found dead in a back room. Authorities had not made any arrests until Sunday afternoon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the slain as 30-year-old Renesha Dotson and 39-year-old Lionel Darling. The medical examiner’s office said he was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:55 am.

Speaking to reporters near the scene of the shooting in Chicago’s Park Manor neighborhood, Superintendent of Police David Brown said investigators were still searching for a possible motive.

Mr Brown said four guns were recovered at the scene, but did not say whether investigators believe more than one person fired.

“We have a lot to work on,” Mr. Brown said. “Detectives are really just getting started.” Brown had stepped into a garage for what he described as a “pop-up party”. “We don’t know what the celebration associated with this party was at this point, we’re still trying to move forward on what the motive might be,” Mr Brown said.

More than 40 people were killed in Chicago in 2020, which is the sum of the highest number of murders in the city in 20 years. Police attributed several killings in disputes between rival gangs.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the shooting “abusive” in a series of Twitter posts on Sunday, urging those watching it to come forward and tell police what they saw. He said that “people out there, people reading this, know who pulled the trigger last night.” “For those mothers who will never hear their child’s voice again, and children who will grow up without parents, I urge you to please support our city in this investigation so that justice can be given and our The family is heartbroken to be able to move forward with this tragic event, ”said Ms. Lightfoot.
