Police have arrested an autorickshaw driver who killed an eight-month-old girl after the girl’s parents disapproved of her love for her daughter.
Police said that autorickshaw driver Sivasankaran of Rosamipuram near Panaguri wanted to marry a girl from the same area. As the girl’s parents declined the offer, Sivasankaran, accompanied by machete and kerosene, went to the girl’s house on Saturday morning when the girl’s father, Russell Raj, a preacher, went for a walk.
After forcibly entering the house, Sivasankaran threatens the girl’s mother Mahima with a weapon and bites her, in which she sustained a cut injury to the neck. He then attacked his 8-month-old granddaughter, Akshay, who died on the spot.
Hearing his wife’s scream, Russell went home and confronted Sivasankaran and he also suffered cut injuries.
Tirukkurukudi police have arrested Sivasankaran who has been injured.
