Black Cap said New Zealand captain Kane Williamson would miss this month’s one-day international against Bangladesh due to Kohli’s injury. The team’s medical manager, Dele Shekel, said Williamson had a small tear in his left elbow that had been bothering him for months. He said Williamson had tried to manage the injury while playing without success, forcing him to pull out of the three-match Bangladesh ODI series, which starts on March 20. “Now they need a period of rest and rehabilitation to heal the injury,” ” Shekel said in a statement.

Coach Gary Stade said that the New Zealanders wanted him to play the final of the ICC World Test Championship against India in June, before Williamson’s injury.

“We want to make sure we have Ken fit in and firing for him,” Stead said.

“We will certainly miss his class and leadership in the upcoming Bangladesh series, but his omission will not lead to a chance for anyone else when the ODI team is named.”

The team facing Bangladesh is to be named on Thursday.
