Jack Letter was six outs by throwing consecutive nine-inning no-hitters. The Vanderbilt sophistication right-hander was sliding through the Missouri lineup on Friday night.
Then Commodore head coach Tim Corbin decided to give the letter the rest of the night.
It was a long term decision. The letter had thrown 101 pitches through seven innings, outscoring No. 1 Wandy Tigers 11–0 and the Commodores have nearly three more months to run the season.

But in the letter conference drama, all Johnny Vander was trying to go to Mir. He made a no-hit on 124 pitches on Saturday in South Carolina. Two more efficient innings against Mizzou pushed him back to the threshold again.

So instead of back-to-back no-hitters, Leiter now has 16 2/3-inning hitless streaks. The last hit he made was on March 13 against Oklahoma State. In all, he has given up seven hits and two runs (one earned) in 36 innings. He is strongly poised to join Dad Al, Uncle Mark and cousin Mark in the summer as a professional box.
If you’re wondering if Wandy’s bullpen has preserved a no-no: it didn’t. Mizzou scored two hits and three runs in the bottom of nine hits. It is like that. A no-hitter combined would have been overwhelming in the SEC game at the end of March. The letter back-to-back would have been tremendous.
