After a good start, Rohit Sharma was dismissed cheaply, but made a brilliant run out to dismiss England opener Jason Roy and gave India their first success in the second ODI in Pune on Friday. Chasing 337 for the win, Roy and Johnny Bairstow gave the visitors a solid start, and formed their second consecutive century partnership for the opening wicket. The wicket came after a mix-up between the two openers in the 17th over of the innings. Bairstow wanted a quick single to steal Kuldeep Yadav for short mid-wicket, but a cautious Rohit Sharma stretched himself to the ground to collect the ball and threw it directly into Rishabh Pant’s gloves. Ended 55 run-event.

The official Twitter handle of the BCCI praised Rohit’s brilliant acrobatic efforts, which sent Jason Roy.

After losing his partner, Bairstow continued the heap of misery on the Indian bowlers and drove the spectators closer to the target, taking them to all parts of the field.

Earlier KL Rahul scored his fifth ODI century and Rishant Pant played a stormy knock of 77 runs from just 40 balls as India scored 336/6 in their 50 overs after being bowled for England.

Promoted

India’s captain Virat Kohli also continued his brilliant form and scored another half-century, while all-rounder Hardik Pandya scored 35 runs in just 16 balls as India scored 100 runs in the final 10 overs.

India beat England by 66 runs in the first ODI to make a stunning comeback to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. It was the first time England had lost the series opener in this tour.
