Tension prevailed on Saturday afternoon in Irukkacheri after a section of the DMK cadre demanded a road squad, stating that the returning officer of Perambur Assembly Constituency rejected the nomination letter of the AIADMK candidate.
In Perambur constituency, NR Dhanapalan, president of Perunthaliver Makkal Katchi, has filed nomination papers as an AIADMK candidate and fielded RD Sekar as DMK candidate. When Returning Officer Rajagopalan picked up the papers for investigation, it was found that a proposer failed to write his Aadhaar number and instead attached a copy of Aadhaar.
DMK representatives protested, demanding that Mr. Dhanapalan’s nomination papers be rejected. Therefore, the decision on the final list was summarized and the nomination was later accepted as it was a minor issue. When the returning officers came out at 3.30 pm, the DMK cadre blocked their car and asked for the AIADMK candidate’s papers to be rejected. A scuffle was seen when the police attempted to remove them.
