Amid the increase of COVID-19 cases in the second wave, Gujarat recorded 1,122 infections on Wednesday, the highest in 100 days. Authorities have banned the suspension of public transport services and the closure of clubs, gyms and gaming zones, gardens and parks in Ahmedabad.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has suspended all public transport buses in the city, while all gyms, public parks and gardens, gaming zones and clubs have been closed.
264 cases were registered in Ahmedabad while 315 infections were reported from Surat.
Cases have been rising in the state for the past few days, but Wednesday saw a surge in numbers with 1,122 infections and three deaths.
So far 4,430 persons have died in the state from COVID-19 while the number of active cases increased to 5,310 on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held a meeting of top officials to take stock of the situation. Four senior bureaucrats have been tasked to oversee epidemic-related management in four cities: Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.
The government has decided to ramp the trials and disrupt mass gatherings in the state, which has given a complete relaxation in norms during recently held local elections and cricket matches played in the city.
Earlier, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) had decided to hold a cricket match behind closed doors, canceling all tickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Due to the increase in the number of corona cases, the GCA has decided in consultation with the BCCI that the matches will not be played for India during the T20 Internationals between England and Ahmedabad, with closed doors on the field. , ”Said GCA Vice President Dhanraj Nathwani.
