A group of DMK men, allegedly led by Mr. Vijayabaskar, objected to the AIADMK, continuing their campaign even after the deadline.
Sixteen AIADMK cadres and three DMK partymen suffered serious injuries on the night of 20 March when they clashed with each other during the election campaign.
Police said that V. of Karur constituency DMK candidate. Groups supporting Senthil Balaji and AIADMK nominee and Transport Minister MR Vijayabaskar clashed in the street of the Mavadian temple soon after the end of the day’s campaign.
A group of DMK men, allegedly led by Mr. Vijayabaskar, objected to the AIADMK, continuing their campaign even after the deadline.
The people of the AIADMK reportedly said that they were returning after riding in a vehicle with a speaker. After the objection, Mr. Vijayabhaskar left from the spot. The DMK men, who insisted on clearing the area to all AIADMK men, allegedly attacked and pelted stones with wooden logs, injuring sixteen people.
He was later taken to hospitals for treatment. Three DMK cadres injured in the clash were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital.
Armed policemen rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Security was tightened in various parts of the constituency.
Mr. Vijayabhaskar learned about the condition of the injured in hospitals.
