Maharashtra’s case spike continued on Monday with another massive increase in 15,051 new COVID-19 cases, as its active case shot up 1,30,547 – nearly 60% of India’s total active cases.
A total of 10,671 patients were discharged, with the state’s recovery rate declining by 92.07% in the last 24 hours.
The death of more than 48 people brought the death toll to 52,909.
While the total case count has reached 23,29,464, the cumulative recovery stands at 21,44,743.
“A total of 1,76,09,248 laboratory samples have been tested so far, with 23,29,464 (case positivity increasing by 13.23%) returning positive with over 93,000 samples being tested in the last 24 hours,” the state Survey Officer Drs. Pradeep Awate said that the fatal increase in the case of the state has been 2.27%.
Pune district reported more than 2,100 new cases taking its total case to 4,41,745. According to data from the state health department, no deaths were reported as the death toll was 8,144. However, according to district officials, 15 deaths were recorded taking a fatal toll of up to 9,428, while the active case tally exceeded the 22,000 mark.
The city of Mumbai registered 1,713 new cases, with a total number of 3,45,675 of which 13,309 are active. Four plagues took the city’s toll at 11,539.
Nagpur district in Vidarbha took another dangerous leap in over 2,400 cases as its total cases were 1,75,995, of which 18,114 are active. With three deaths, its death toll rose to 3,587.
Cases in North Maharashtra continued to grow as Nashik captured 1,39,064 people in over 1,100 cases, of which 8,035 are active. A single death took the toll to 2,094.
Neighboring Jalgaon registered 700 new cases and brought the total number of cases to a single death to 70,304, of which 4,955 are active. The death toll has risen to 1,543.
About 800 new cases were reported in Aurangabad in Marathwada and five deaths occurred, as its total cases reached 60,214, of which 7,899 are active while its death toll stood at 1,294.
However, Western Maharashtra continued to add relatively few cases and deaths. Satara recorded 149 new cases and as a fatal result the total tally rose to 60,871, of which 1,617 are active, and the death toll stood at 1,859.
Sangli added 47 cases and one death brought the total cases in the district to 51,876, of which only 769 are active. Its death toll stood at 1,801.
30 cases were reported in Kolhapur and no deaths were reported as the total number of cases was 50,174, out of which only 420 are active.
Dr. Awatte said that at present, 6,23,121 people were in domestic quarantine and 6,114 in institutional quarantine facilities across the state.
