Wipro acquires cyber security firm Empion for $ 117 million

It is the company’s acquisition of global management and technology consulting company Capco in a $ 1.45 billion deal last month.

Wipro, the head of IT services, said on Thursday that it would acquire Ampion, a provider of Australia’s cyber security, DevOps and quality engineering services, for $ 117 million (approx. 857 million).

The acquisition of Ampion is an important step for Wipro in this direction, and reinforces the commitment to customers and stakeholders in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), Wipro said in a regulatory filing.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval and is expected to close in the quarter ended June 30, 2021.

“The purchase consideration is $ 117 million (1 AUD = 0.78 USD),” Filing said.

Empion was formed through the merger of IT service providers ‘Revolution IT’ and ‘Shelde’. Revolution IT was an IT services company established in Australia in 2004 and Scheldt was a digital IT security company established in Australia in 2010.

The merged entity, Ampion, is headquartered in Melbourne, with offices in Sydney, Brisbane, and a Zone 3 facility in Canberra.

Ampion had an annual revenue rate of $ 85.5 million for the year ending June 30, 2020, of which approximately 12% was related to the sale of products.

The filing states that the Australian market is undergoing significant disruption through adoption of cloud, DevOps, analytics and resilience digital capabilities, enterprises and public sector entities.

It has been said that the combined offerings of Wipro and Ampion, powered by engineering transformation, DevOps and security consulting services will bring scale and market agility to respond to the growing demands of clients.

Last month, Wipro announced that it would acquire London-headquartered Capco, a global management and technology consultancy, in a $ 1.45 billion (over ₹ 10,500 crore) deal – the largest acquisition ever.

Wipro’s new operating model focuses on strategic investments in focus geographies, proximity to customers, agility, scale and localization.

Wipro ANZ has been in the marketplace for over two decades with deep customer relationships across industry sectors and localized domains and distribution capabilities.

“I am excited to welcome Ampion to the Wipro family. Jamie Duffield, CEO of Ampion, said that the company’s customers, employees and the entire market ecosystem would benefit greatly from the transformer synergy of Ampion and Wipro’s transformation offers.

“We believe that Ampian’s experience, talent, capabilities and proven client credentials at ANZ combined with Wipro’s global scale, leadership in technology and deep understanding of domain and delivery will make us a truly formidable team.
