American men’s national team defender Chris Richards is set to bring the first men’s World Cup title back to the states.
Richards is part of the USMNT’s promising and youth side, which includes Christian Pulisic, Weston McKenney, Sergino Dest, Tyler Adams and Geo Reyna.
With that young core preparing for 2022, and finally, a 2026 World Cup on home soil, Richards says the current group has the purpose and ambition to join the world’s elite.
What did Richards say?
Richards said, “We want to win every game and every tournament but in 2026 it is possible to play on our home ground. Guardian. “We want to make history by bringing back the first World Cup.”
A learning experience
In 2018 Richards made his move to Bayern, initially on loan from FC Dallas, before the loan was made permanent.
His first Bayern appearance appeared in the preseason games against Juventus and Manchester City in 2018, and he rose rapidly through the system before making his first official appearance for Bayern last June.
Richards made eight appearances for Bayern before being loaned to Hoffenheim, where he currently features the club, sitting 11th in the Bundesliga.
Now finding his feet in the Bundesliga, Richards looks back at his “Welcome to Europe” moment, drawing lessons from the legendary Rjen Robben.
“You know he’s going to the left, you’ve seen him through his entire career so that’s why I think: ‘Okay, push me to his right,” Richards said.
“So he lifts his right and back to his left and he takes you past. You think: ‘Ah, I just got bitten by Arjen Robben, and then you think he made one of the best defenders.’ Has done it for me. ” World for years.
“You can’t look at it in amazement. You realize that you have a job to do and so you try not to be such a fanboy next time. It was a big learning curve for me, which was by Arjen Robben, Frank Playing against RibĂ©ry is something that you cannot prepare for.
