Except Assam, BJP will lose elections in four other states

The NCP chief gave slogan to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for not fulfilling constitutional duties.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar claimed on Sunday that except Assam, the BJP will face defeat in four other states and the election trend in five states will give a new direction to the country.

Talking to reporters in Baramati town of Pune district in Maharashtra, Mr. Pawar, whose party is an ally of the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government, accused the Center of misusing its power in West Bengal.

Assembly elections in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry (Union Territory) will be held in March-April this year and counting of votes will take place on 2 May.

“… Today it is wrong to talk about the results of five states because the people of these states will decide. As far as Kerala is concerned, the Left parties and NCP have come together and we are sure that we will get a clear majority.

In Tamil Nadu, people will support the DMK and its chief MK Stalin, and will come to power in the state after the elections, the former union minister said.

The NCP chief said, “In West Bengal, the Center, especially the BJP, is abusing power and trying to attack a sister (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) who is trying to fight for the people of the state . “

He said that the entire state has rallied against Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee as it is a matter of Bengali pride and self-respect.

“I have no doubt that the Trinamool Congress will retain power under Ms. Banerjee’s leadership,” he said.

Mr Pawar further said that he knows the state of elections in Assam, and according to the input received from his party people, the BJP, which is currently in power, is in a “good position” compared to others.

“In short, the BJP will retain power in Assam, but will face defeat in other elections, and other political parties will come to power in those states. I am confident that this trend will give the country a new direction”, he said.

When asked by the NIA about the arrest of Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze in connection with the recovery of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, Mr. Pawar termed the issue as “local” and did not comment, saying Not related to state policies.

Earlier in the day, when asked if Mr. Pawar was upset with Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and demanded his removal, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in Mumbai said, “Mr. Pawar Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) guide Prakash. It led to the formation of this (Maharashtra) government. ”

While Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari did not approve the names suggested by the state cabinet for nomination as MLCs under the Governor’s quota, Mr. Pawar said it is the responsibility of the Governor to implement the Cabinet recommendation.

“In the history of Maharashtra, the state has not seen a governor who has not performed the responsibility given to him by the constitution. However, the current governor has done the magic, which is unfortunate.”

Mr. Pawar said that when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the latter complained about the obstacles being created by the then Governor.

“Today the same thing is happening in Maharashtra and the center is just becoming a spectator, which is worrying,” he said.

COVID-19 | Final warning, follow the rules, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray tells hotel associations

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that all rules should be followed.

On March 13, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered hotels and restaurants in the state to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol in their premises and not force the state to implement drastic measures such as lockdown.

Speaking at a virtual meeting by representatives of hotel and restaurant associations, shopping center groups, CM said the “lackluster” attitude towards the prevailing norms had recently come to an end.

“Do not force us to impose a strict lockout. Consider this a final warning. Follow all the rules. Everybody has to realize that there is a difference between self-discipline and restrictions, ”said Mr. Thackeray.

The CM pointed out that since the activities started in a phased manner from October, congestion had increased in most places, and safety regulations were not being followed and resulted in a huge increase in cases.

Incidentally, 15,602 COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths were reported in Maharashtra on 13 March, reaching 22,97,793 and 52,811 by toll.

He said that his government was not in favor of lockdown to deal with the latest upsurge and asked people to cooperate to avoid taking such drastic decisions.

Mumbai Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal suggested that hotel and restaurant associations could organize flying squads to check if the outbreak norms were being followed.

These associations said that member establishments not complying with the rules would be removed, while representatives of the shopping center said they could deploy “COVID marshals” to check on people at the mall, while entry to the food courts would be restricted .

COVID-19 boom in cases: Uddhav Thackeray warns of lockout in more parts of Maharashtra

With Maharashtra reporting a dangerous case, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday warned of a lockout in more parts of the state and said a decision would be taken in the next few days.

The Chief Minister also said that the situation has not yet spiraled out of control.

Shri Thackeray’s statement came even after his Maha Vikas Aghadi government announced a seven-day lockout in Nagpur district in Vidarbha region from 15 March.

“In the coming days, we may have to lock out some more areas if the rules are not followed strictly. We will take this decision in the next few days, ”Mr. Thackeray said after giving his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at JJ Hospital.

He and his wife Rashmi were given ‘Kovaxin’ supplements from Bharat Biotech.

The Chief Minister directed the people to strictly follow the epidemiological rules – avoiding physical disturbances, wearing masks and unnecessary travel.

He dispelled rumors concerning the adverse effects of the vaccine, assuring citizens that there was no need to be confused or afraid of any of it.

The state’s active case has reduced from 40,000 a year to nearly a lakh a fortnight ago.

Nagpur’s guardian minister Nitin Raut said that the complete lockout will continue in the city police commissionerate area from March 15 to March 21. Essential services such as vegetable stores, milk booths and medical services will remain operational throughout the district.

Mr. Raut said that private offices will remain closed while government offices will operate at 25% capacity.

The liquor will only be sold online, he said.

Nagpur district has been reporting a daily average case increase of over 1,200 cases for the past few days, with a record single-day jump of over 1,800 new cases on Wednesday. The district has about 13,000 active cases and more than 3,500 fatalities have been reported.

A three-day ‘Janata curfew’ has been imposed in North Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district since Thursday, while district authorities in Jalna in Marathwada region have closed all bars and permit rooms in the next week in view of increasing cases.

Mr. Waze is known as the ‘encounter specialist’ of the Mumbai Police. He was suspended for 16 years for his arrest in 2004 following the alleged custodial death of 27-year-old Khwaja Yunus. He was reinstated in June 2020 in view of COVID-19 citing the need for officers in the force.
