As former India captain Sunil Gavaskar celebrated the 50th anniversary of his Test career, the batting veteran made his debut on social media on Saturday as he finally created an account on Instagram. Sunil Gavaskar’s son Rohan tweeted about his father making his debut on Instagram and he posted the post as “one more debut !!” This time posted on Instagram.

In his first post on Instagram, Gavaskar shared an old photo and he captioned the post: “Hello Instagram. I think I’m ready for another start.”

The BCCI also honored Sunil Gavaskar for his contribution to Indian cricket as the BCCI secretary honored the batting during the three-day lunch break of the ongoing fourth Test match between India and England.

Gavaskar made his Test debut against the West Indies on March 6, 1971 at the Port of Spain, Trinidad. During his career, Gavaskar broke the record of many batsmen and established himself as an outstanding batsman.

India visited the West Indies for a five-Test series during the 1970–71 cricket season. The series was one of the most memorable as India won their first Test series against the West Indies.

India, led by Ajit Wadekar, won the five-match series 1–0 and Gavaskar finished as the leading run-scorer, scoring four centuries, including a double ton.

In his career, Gavaskar played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India. He was also part of the 1983 World Cup victory and the 1985 Cricket Championship World Championship.

Gavaskar scored 10,122 runs in the longest format of the game and by 2005 he held the record for most centuries in Test cricket. In 2005, Sachin Tendulkar broke this record.

In 108 ODIs, Gavaskar scored 3,092 with his highest score being 103 not out.
