Sky Q users just received a terrifyingly good update

Sky has quietly added a number of new voice commands to both Sky Q and Sky Glass to celebrate Halloween. The new update, which is already installed and ready to go on your telly, brings some of the most well-known quotes from horror films to your remote control. Sky is constantly updating and improving its voice search features, with recent additions to celebrate the Euros 2020 tournament and the return of Love Island over the summer.

As well as the scary new voice commands, Sky has created a new landing page that brings together all of its spookiest movies and shows. This landing page will be continually updated with new arrivals, so make sure to keep an eye on that page as new premieres land on Sky Cinema. If you’ve signed into streaming services, like Netflix and Prime Video, on your Sky Q box or Sky Glass TV, suggestions from these providers will appear side-by-side with content from Sky’s own catalogue.

You’ll be able to jump straight into spine-tingling series like The Haunting Of Hill House or Midnight Mass from the Sky menu, for example. As always with Netflix, your progress will be synced across your devices – so you’ll be able to pick-up the next episode on your smartphone or tablet as long as it’s signed in with the same account.

To jump to the special Halloween menu, Sky Q Voice Remote owners can say “Halloween”, “Scare Me” or “Frighten Me”.

If you’re lucky enough to be one of the first to get Sky Glass, you can ditch the remote control altogether and say these commands hands-free. You’ll have to start by saying “Hello, Sky” which acts as the wake phrase – an On button for the system to take note of what you’re about to say.

Sky has added references to a number of classic horror flicks. As always, the fun is trying out new phrases – like confessing to your remote control that you’ve had issues “seeing dead people”, or that you might ‘need a bigger boat” – but we’ve compiled a small list of some of our favourites (and what movies they’ll trigger) below.

  • “Here’s Jonny” – The Shining
  • “Candyman, Candyman, Candyman” – Candyman (1992)
  • “We’re going to get you” – The Evil Dead
  • “I’m a werewolf” – An American Werewolf in London
  • “I’m Patrick Bateman” – American Psycho

As always, you can also ask Sky Glass and Sky Q “What should I watch?” to get a list of personalised recommendations based on your viewing habits and what’s trending, including the best entertainment from Sky TV, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and more.
