Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 vs Z Flip at Rs 63,790: What do you get extra for paying over Rs 20,000 - Eagles Vine
Samsung has launched its new Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone– Z Flip 3– in India at a starting price of Rs 84,999 while the 2020 Galaxy Z Flip phone is selling at as low as Rs 63,790. The Galaxy Z Flip was the first ‘affordable’ foldable phone from Samsung launched in 2020 and the new Z Flip 3 features hardware improvements. Also, the new Z Flip 3 is 5G-enabled while the older one is a 4G device.
The form factor of both the phones are similar but the new device comes with better displays, IPX8 water resistance and new Qualcomm chipset. So, here’s what extra you get for spending Rs 20,000 more.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 design: stronger frame and water resistant
Samsung is said to be using a stronger aluminum frame in the new Z Flip 3 and there’s IP X8 water resistance too. Also, Samsung is using Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. While the weight is similar to the older Z Flip, the ew Z Flip 3 is slightly thinner. While the Z Flip 3 is water resistant, it is not at all dust resistant. So, taking the phone to the beach or swimming pool may not be a good idea as the wet phone will easily attract sand and other particles that may scratch the fragile flexible display and also the hinge mechanism may get affected by sand. Another major change in the design is that the rear camera on the cover display is now horizontally arranged instead of the vertical setup in the older Z Flip. While there are new colour options, for buyers in India, the choice is limited to Phantom Black and Cream for the Z Flip 3. For the older Z Flip, colour options include Gold, Purple and Black.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 vs Z Flip display: Bigger cover display, 120Hz refresh rate
The new Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a visibly bigger cover display. When folded, you will now get a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED display instead of the 1.1-inch display on the Z Flip. Inside, you get a 6.7-inch foldable display with 2640×1080 pixels resolution, aspect ratio of 22:9 and 120HZ refresh rate. The major change here is that Samsung has added adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The older model had a 60Hz refresh rate panel.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 vs Z Flip cameras: Identical selfie and rear cameras
Samsung hasn’t introduced any major changes in the camera department. You can expect both the phones to click identical images. There’s a dual camera setup with 12MP wide sensor, F1.8 aperture, OIS and autofocus along with a 12MP ultrawide sensor with F2.2 aperture. Inside, the main display has a 10MP selfie
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 vs Z Flip processor: New 5G Qualcomm chipset
The 2020 Galaxy Z Flip comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC while the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset. You can buy the new Z Flip 3 with 8GB RAM only. But there’s an option to choose between 128GB and 256GB internal storage. The 8GB+128GB model of Galaxy Z Flip 3 costs Rs 84, 999 while the 8GB+256GB variant is priced at Rs 88,999. As both the foldable phones are not meant for gaming, the real-life performance of both the devices are expected to be similar. The battery life of both the phones are the same and comes with 15W fast charging.
