Realme GT series smartphone is scheduled to make its debut in India on August 18. Days ahead of the launch, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has said that the company is discontinuing its X series in the favour of the upcoming GT series. Speaking in an interview with TechRadar, Sheth said that ‘the X will be replaced by the GT; so the GT is the new X.”
That said, he emphasized that the company will continue to offer smartphones under other series — Realme C series, Realme Narzo series and the numbered series.
Realme X debuted in July 2019
For those unaware, Realme offered high-end feature phones at affordable pricing under the X series. Realme debuted its first phone under the X series in July 2019. The company then announced Realme X as its first ‘affordable flagship’ with a starting price of Rs 16,999. It was also the company’s one of the first phones to feature a pop-up camera. Eventually, it added Realme X2, Realme X2 Pro, Realme X3, Realme X3 SuperZoom, Realme X7 and Realme X7 Pro to the series.
The last phone under the X series is the Realme X7 Max 5G. The handset is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor and carries a price tag of Rs 26,999 (base model). The smartphone competes with OnePlus Nord 2 and Oppo Reno 6 Pro.
Realme to launch 2 GT series phones on Aug 18
Meanwhile, Realme is teasing the upcoming GT series as Flagship Killer 2021. The company is expected to bring two smartphones under the series. Along with the ‘vanilla’ edition, the company will launch the GT Master Edition handset.
Sheth has already confirmed that the Indian model of Realme GT will come with the same specs and features as the global version. The handset comes powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and offers an AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
On the pricing front, the series handsets are likely to be priced above Rs 30,000. Sheth, in one of the episodes of #AskMadhav said that Realme GT 5G is a flagship smartphone so it will be priced above Rs 30,000.
