Devotees thronged the centuries-old Shaivite temples in undivided Nalgonda for special worship and darshan on auspicious Maha Shivaratri on Thursday.
The Chay Someshwar Swamy Temple, popular for its architecture and mystical shadow over the linga in the sanctum sanctorum, and the Pachala Someshwara Swamy temple, featuring the linga in green, both situated in Panagala on the outskirts of the city, bear witness to thousands of devotees.
The local MLA in the temple programs. The Jadala Ramalingeswara Swamy temple situated on the Cherugattu hill near Neerkatapalli also attracted many devotees from the district and surroundings.
Energy Minister. Jagdish Reddy and other leaders visited the Arkeshwar temple at Pillamari in Suryapet. Built in the 13th century with the Nameshwar and Trikuta temples here, the Erakeshwar temple is popular for its architecture, inscriptions and acoustic features. The Someshwara Swamy temple located at Kolanupaka village in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district also changed with the celebration of the festival.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy was at Milelachuvu to perform namaz at the Swayambhu Shambhulingeswara Swamy temple, and later participated in a yajna.
Devotees in serpentine queues were at the confluence of the Kirshana and Musi rivers at Vadapalli on the inter-state border at the 12th-century Sri Meenakshi Agaswaswara Swamy temple. The mystical feature of the continuous ‘Shiva Abhishekam’, through a spade above the lingam, attracts devotees from two Telugu states.
