‘Naidu should apologize for NAD flyover’

GVL Narasimha Rao says faulty design is to blame for fatal accidents

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said on Thursday that TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu should apologize to the people of the city for the poor execution of the NAD flyover, as work was started on it during his tenure.

Mr. Narasimha Rao inspected the flyover on Thursday and spoke to traders who have shops on the ground near the flyover, and climbed the flyover with auto-rickshaw drivers to get information about their problems. There was heavy traffic at the flyover although it was past 11 quarter.

Mr. Narasimha Rao said that he was told that some severe accidents had taken place on the flyover even before it was fully operational. Lower rotary works were yet to be completed. “I have not seen a flyover anywhere else in the country, on which the rotary has to be staffed by four traffic policemen to prevent accidents. The BJP leader said, “A rotary has been built to ensure smooth flow of traffic, without the need of a traffic policeman to control the traffic.”

He said that there were some problems in the construction of the flyover, which led to accidents. He wondered if the YSR Congress government was overseeing the execution of the project. According to a question, he said that he was unsure whether the flyover was being constructed with central funds or by the state government with its own funds.

Mr. Narasimha Rao said that the Center had selected the city of Visakhapatnam as one of the first three cities in India for development under the Smart City Project and approved crores of rupees for a total of 70 projects. When the central funds are used for the central project, we will take this issue to the notice of the Center and the Union Urban Development Minister. BJP will make NAD flyover an issue in GVMC elections, ”he said.
