Lakers star LeBron James will not return for the remainder of Saturday’s game against the Hawks after suffering an ankle injury in the first half.
Early in the second quarter, Atlanta pushed Solomon Hill for a loose ball and collided with James. He appeared to be rolling on James’s right ankle, and four times the MVP screamed in pain as he fell to the floor.

James attempted to stay in the game and even fired a corner with a 3-pointer when the game resumed, but the Lakers finally called a timeout, after it was clear that he would go to court And was struggling to get down. James then went straight back to the locker room, knocking on the chair in frustration as he made his way down the Staples Tunnel.
Shortly before the conclusion of James’ first half, Los Angeles announced Out for the rest of the game. The Lakers were already without All-Star forward Anthony Davis, who is still recovering from a calf injury he was playing against the Nuggets on February 14.
James scored 10 points and had four assists in 11 minutes.

Prior to Saturday’s competition, James played in the first 41 matches of the 40 Lakers this season. With an average of 25.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game, the 36-year-old is considered one of the top candidates for the 2020-21 NBA MVP award.
