The forest department is preparing a katla at Vajahithottam village in Nilgiris to capture an injured wild elephant named Rivaldo settled in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
A kraal is a wood made to restrict the movement of an elephant. It is used to capture wild elephants.
The Madras High Court recently said: “As far as Rivaldo is concerned…, the sole purpose [of assisting the animal] He has to provide healing to his truncated torso which hinders his food intake and takes care of impaired vision in one eye. The state reports that Rivaldo is now doing well and does not intend to keep Rivaldo in captivity for any length of time. “The order stated that the government agreed to release Rivaldo after treatment.
Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (Buffer Zone) Deputy Director, LCS Srikanth said, “We have been involved in the entire team of forest staff for the last five days, who take full care of Rivaldo.”
According to him, Rivaldo was finding it difficult to eat and had impaired vision, for which he would be treated. To confirm whether Rivaldo would be released after treatment, Mr. Srikanth said that if he was treated for a long period of time, the elephant could be earned for life in captivity. He refused to announce that Rivaldo would be released into the wild. He said that he is yet to receive the court order.
Rivaldo’s health
Conservationist of Eucalyptus n. Mohanraj said that there was nothing wrong with Rivaldo’s physical health. “An elephant can be rehabilitated. It only requires the dedication of the forest department to ensure that people stop eating it. If Rivaldo is removed from the wild, “a unique Asian elephant, known for its size and capable of emerging as one of the dominant males in the region, will be removed from the genetic pool of wild elephants . “
“Even if the elephant is unwell, it is unnecessary to interfere with the natural process. In the past, it was standard practice not to even care for abandoned elephant calves. This is a very bad example, ”said another conservationist.
He wondered if it would be considered to capture all elephants that were injured by wild elephants.
Mudumalai Tiger Reserve’s field director KK Kaushal said the department would decide on whether to hold Rivaldo and interpret the court order.
