Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Thursday that he has noted the suggestions put forward by the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) after meeting with him against the backdrop of the new digital media rules.

Addressing the participants virtually, Mr. Javadekar informed them that the new rules placed some responsibilities on digital news publishers.
“These include adherence to a code of conduct such as the Standards of Journalistic Conduct formulated by the Program Code under the Press Code of India and the Cable Television Network Act.
“Further, for the redressal of citizens’ grievances, the rules have provided for a three-tier grievance redressal mechanism, the first and second tier of which will be digital news publishers and self-regulatory bodies set up by them,” by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting A statement issued said.
As per the new rules, digital news publishers will also be required to submit some basic information to the Ministry in a simplified form, which is being finalized, and from time to time, it will be necessary to give details of the grievance redressal measures taken by them . In the public domain.
Mr. Javadekar said that print media as well as television channels have a digital presence, where the content on traditional platforms is almost the same.

The statement said the participants welcomed the new rules, stating that audio-visual and print media were following the prescribed norms of the Cable Television Network Act and the Press Council Act.
He called for publishing digital content, with publishers adhering to the current norms of traditional platforms and felt that it should be treated differently than news publishers who are only on a digital platform.
Mr. Javadekar thanked the participants for expressing their views and said that the government will take note of this and will continue with this consultation process for the overall development of the media industry.
