‘CM committed to ensuring social justice, women empowerment’

Government. 78% of elected mayors, chairpersons hail from weaker sections

In line with his commitment to women empowerment and social justice, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has given six out of 11 mayoral posts in urban local bodies, and 10 out of 11 to backward classes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Tribes and minorities according to the official release.

According to the release, seventy-eight percent of the elected mayors and presidents are from Dalit and backward communities.

Of the 86 positions of mayor and chairperson, 52 are women, against the general quota of 42. Similarly, out of 728 posts of chairperson and director of 56 BC Corporation, 368 are women and in addition the deputy minister and home minister are women.

The release said that the government has provided 50% reservation for women and weaker sections.

Also, in the first of its kind initiative in the country, the state government has incorporated Disa police stations and special courts to deal with crimes against women.

To check malnutrition and anemia in pregnant women, lactating mothers and children between the ages of 6 and 72 months, the government has introduced YSR Sampoorna Poshana Plus and YSR Sampoorna Poshana schemes to provide supplementary nutrition through Anganwadi centers .

The release said that the government has also brought in several schemes focused on financial empowerment of women such as YSR Chiyutha, Kapu Neshm and Aasra.
