CM Pema Khandu appealed to the indigenous leaders to make suggestions to the department for preservation of cultures and languages.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the state’s first formal indigenous language and knowledge system school in East Kameng district, an official release said on Sunday.
On Saturday, the first school named ‘Nyabu Nyagam Yerko’ was inaugurated in Rang village near Seppa.
Mr. Khandu said that the school would help promote and preserve indigenous traditions, culture and language.
He praised Donnie Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust for the initiative and Pai Dowe for donating the land to the Gurukul-type institution.
Mr. Khandu said that his government is committed to preserving the indigenous culture of the state and has established the Department of Indigenous Affairs, for which he has earned the appreciation of people from neighboring states as well.

“People from our neighboring states greeted me,” he said.
“Many of them have lost their indigenous identity. We have woken up at the right time, Arunachales, ”said Mr. Khandu.
He appealed to indigenous leaders to make suggestions to the department for preservation of cultures and languages.
“Being a monpa, I follow Buddhism. Being institutional, my culture is safe. We learn and earn degrees in Buddhism. Therefore, we need to establish institutions that teach our children their indigenous culture, heritage, language, way of life and be proud of it.
Mr. Khandu, however, emphasized that modern education cannot be ignored and should be taken up hands-on.
He thanked the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Group for taking the responsibility of imparting formal education to the students of Nayubu Navagam Yerko.
He said that Rs 3 crore has been kept for the development and maintenance of the school.
