Three million telemedicine consultancy provided under eSanjeevani service of the center

The Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday that the Centre’s telemedicine service has delivered 30 lakh consultations in the top 10 states along with Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.

The service, known as ESGivani, is operational in 31 states and union territories and more than 35,000 patients across the country are using this innovative digital medium in search of health services.

The National Telemedicine Service is set up by the Ministry of Health, which includes two variants of eSanjivani – Doctor to Doctor (eSanjeevani AB-HWC) telemedicine platform based on Hub and Spoke model and Patient to Doctor Telemedicine Platform (eSanjeevani OPD) Hai provides outpatient services to citizens within the confines of their homes. The ministry said in its statement that Isengivani AB-HWC is being implemented in Health and Wellness Centers under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme and by December 2022 it will be operationalized in 1,55,000 Health and Wellness Centers across India.

ESanjeevani OPD provides digital health services to citizens through over 250 online OPDs set up at eSanjeevaniOPD. Of these, over 220 online OPD specialists are OPDs and the rest are general OPDs. The ministry said that the ESGV OPD was rolled out in April 2020 during the first lockdown in the country. “So far, more than 21,00,000 patients have been served through eSanjeevaniOPD,” it said.

The service has started supporting the Indian healthcare delivery system by incorporating the digital health divide that exists in urban and rural India, the ministry highlighted.

“It is also eliminating the shortage of grassroots doctors and specialists while reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary level hospitals. In line with the National Digital Health Mission, the digital health ecosystem in the country is also getting a boost.

The leading 10 states in terms of number of adoptions (number of consultations) of ESanjeevani are Tamil Nadu (6,42,708), Uttar Pradesh (6,31,019), Karnataka (6,07,305), Andhra Pradesh (2,7,860), Madhya Pradesh ( 2) Are, 04,296), Gujarat (1,95,281), Kerala (93,317), Maharashtra (84,742), Uttarakhand (74,776) and Himachal Pradesh (67,352). In relation to adoption between districts, eSanjeevani has been used by citizens in about 600 districts. Nationally, more than 31,000 doctors and paramedics have been trained and 14,000 of these doctors practice telemedicine at the E-Sanjivani OPD and more than 17,000 doctors and community health officers use Szewani AB-HWC.

“The rapid and widespread adoption of eSinjivani suggests that a significant proportion of outpatient visits can be managed remotely, medically effective. The ministry said that patients with urgent medical conditions are using Eswangi without the risk of getting themselves infected and compromising the quality of care.
