The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday expressed warmth over the statewide donation drive for the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
State Congress chief and party MLA Nana Patole alleged that citizens are being threatened with donations. “There are reports from various regions that people collecting donations are resorting to threats. Who are these people collecting money in the name of Rama? Bharatiya Janata Party is [BJP] Took contract for extortion in the name of Lord Ram? ” He asked.
On this, BJP MLAs descended on the well of the House. Mr. Patole said he had received complaints of one person in particular. “Who gave these people the right to collect money in the name of Lord Rama? Where has the money collected 30 years ago gone? BJP should reply.
The proceedings were adjourned for 10 minutes as the protests continued. Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that those who extort do not understand the importance of charity. “If this assembly wants to discuss donations, it should have a special discussion,” he said.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi demanded that Muslim ministers in the state government resign on Wednesday to protest in the context of the Babri Masjid demolition by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Mr. Thackeray had mentioned how his father and the army chief late Bal Thackeray had taken responsibility for the demolition. “How can such a speech be given inside the assembly at a time when a government which believes in secularism is in power?” He asked
