Meghan Markle’s father suggested on Tuesday that her daughter aggravated racism in the British royal family during an interview with the American chat show Oprah Winfrey.
Thomas Markle told ITV that the couple’s two-hour conversation with Ms. Winfrey was “way over the top” and suggested that members of a royal family might ask “dumb questions” about the skin color of their future baby .
The 76-year-old Emmy-winning former lighting director was interviewed by former tabloid newspaper editor Pearce Morgan from his home in Mexico, one of Ms. Meghan’s most Weithic critics.
“They (Harry and Meghan) went over the top with these stories with Oprah and should have waited to see the age of Queen and the age of Philip,” she said on the CBS show aired on Sunday.
Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is 94 and her husband, Prince Philip, is 99 and currently recovering from a heart operation.
She copied Ms. Meghan’s comments that an unnamed royal family member had asked how dark her baby’s skin would be.
“It’s all about the color and how dark the baby is, crap,” said Mr. Markle, who is white, while Ms. Meghan’s mother is black.
“I am guessing and hoping that this is just a dumb question from someone. I do not think the British royal family are racist. “
