Internet ban continues in Telangana’s violence-hit buffalo town

Superintendent of Police Vishnu S. of Nirmal District. “Normality returned to buffalo only on Monday, but we still have to call to restore Internet services,” said Warrier.

Buffalo, a small town in Nirmal district of Telangana with no untoward incident, led to Sunday’s communal clashes in which at least 10 people, including a journalist and three police personnel, were injured.

However, officials still have to decide to reinstate Internet services in the city, which was suspended post clash to prevent locals from sharing photos and videos of the incident on social media.

Superintendent of Police in charge of the district, Vishnu S. “Normality returned to buffalo only on Monday, but we still have to call to restore Internet services,” said Warrier.

He said he had registered 15 cases against 14 people including riot, arson, reckless offenses, and 14 people including two municipal councilors – one from AIMIM and the other as independents – and was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

“More than 20 suspects involved in the violence are absconding and six personnel have been involved, including 60 personnel,” the official said.

An official said 28 other suspects who took part in Sunday’s violence were taken into custody and are being questioned. “Based on available evidence and eyewitness testimony, the role of the eight individuals in custody has already been proven, and they will be remanded soon.” We are confirming the participation of others, ”he said on condition of anonymity.

“If there is no untoward incident after the imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC, it is a good sign, and we can assume that normalcy has been restored,” the official said.

Heavy teams of police were deployed to maintain law and order in the town. According to Mr. Warrier, more than 600 police personnel from neighboring districts were pressed into service in a single evening.

Clashes erupted after a heated debate between a bike rider and people from another community at around 8.45am on Sunday and within a short time, supporters of both groups pelted at each other and set fire to homes, vehicles and small business establishments .

“The situation was brought under control by 10.30 pm,” Mr.Warrier said.
