The AIADMK was embroiled in BJP’s hatred policies and other crimes and therefore deserved to be shown out in the assembly elections, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said in Dharmapuri on Friday.
This is an important election at a time when there is an all-out attack on the people, their livelihood and the constitution under the BJP.
This was the reason that the BJP and its ally, the AIADMK, which was embroiled in its crimes, needed to be defeated, he said.
Collapse of MSMEs
Prior to the COVID-19 epidemic, high unemployment, recession, and monetization and GST were eliminated. The nationwide lockdown abolished the informal sector, MSMEs, over 150 million jobs were lost during this period.
Under the AIADMK, “blinded to the tune of BJP”, Tamil Nadu had become the country’s worst indebted state. “Every newborn in Tamil Nadu was born with a debt of ₹ 60,000,” he quipped.
Mr. Yechury alleged that despite BJP’s bidding, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy or his deputy O. Panneerselvam received just ₹ 6,000 crore as cyclone relief, although it asked ₹ 60 lakh crore from the Center.
The entire working class was on a war path against the Modi government, Mr. Yechury said. There were struggles against abolition of labor laws, agricultural laws and privatization of public sector units.
While the Modi government was refusing to give relief to the people, it was dividing them with hatred. The BJP-ruled states passed the “Love Jihad” law, targeting the youth and Muslims.
“We are the product of many of our identities, which the BJP wanted to erase with the support of the AIADMK,” he said, alleging that voters are asked to vote for the outgoing government.
Earlier, he told journalists in Salem that the BJP was facing a difficult task in all the contested states including Assam where the party was in power.
According to him, the credibility of the Left is definitely increasing and it is the Left which rests on its principles and ideology. He said that Tamil Nadu needs change and the best chance for this is under the leadership of the DMK.
On the recent fall of the Congress government in Puducherry, he said, “BJP has formed governments with just three MLAs, they have the upper hand, not the support of the people.” In addition, central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI are used.
On allowing postal votes for persons above the age of 80, he said that the physical veracity of voters should not be compromised. The eight-phase election in West Bengal was to help the BJP as it had no prominent leader.
Praising Mr. Modi’s Tamil, he said, was hypocrisy and it is meant to confuse people. This is against the PM’s ideology because “they believe in one nation, one language, one culture.”
Mr. Yechury alleged that COVID-19 vaccination was also a political program for Modi.
