The YSR Congress Party, which has won over 75% of the 64 municipal wards in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), secured 2,719,660 votes, 45.85% of the 4.57 lakh valid votes.
The ruling party garnered more than 10% of the vote on the Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (CPI) alliance, which garnered 35% of the vote share (1,60,059) and placed second on the list. The latter won only 14 wards.
The Bharatiya Janata Party garnered 45,738 votes for the first time, securing a 10% vote share, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured only 10,671 votes (2.33%) in its kitty. The CPI (M), which has won only one ward, outperformed the BJP and garnered 2.42% votes.
The Congress party, with only 2,977 votes voted in its favor, lagged behind the None of the Above (NOTA) option exercised by 4,679 voters.
In the 2014 civic elections, TDP garnered 39.67% of the total 4.39 lakh valid votes cast, while YSRCP had a vote share of 29.72% at the time. The ruling party’s share has increased the vote share by more than 16% in this municipal election. Congress was third with 11.66% vote share.
