YSRCP gives Narasimapatnam municipality a close win

In close, the YSR Congress Party on Sunday swept the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Narasipatnam municipality, winning 14 out of the total 28 wards.

Coming closer, the TDP secured 12 wards and each ward was won by the Jan Sena Party (JSP) and an Independent. The fight was very close and some candidates won by a majority of 10 to 15 votes.

For the first time, JSP has opened its account in Narasipatnam in Visakhapatnam district.

Narasipatnam was upgraded from a gram panchayat to a municipality in 2012, and then the TDP won the election. The TDP then won 17 wards out of 28, one belonged to the CPI and one of them was won by the Congress.

The Congress party failed to open its account in this election.

Among the 12 winning candidates of TDP, Ch. Padmavati and Chau. Rajesh, wife and former minister Chou. Ayanay Pitru. They won in Ward Nos. 26 and 27 respectively.

Narasipatnam is the hometown of Sri Ayyana Pathrudu and was considered to be the stronghold of the TDP.

Narasipatnam recorded a percentage of 73.94% in the elections and out of 47,821 voters, 35,357 voters exercised their franchise.

Of the 28 winning candidates, 16 are women, including seven from TDP and YSRCP, one from JSP and one Independent.

A total of 437 votes were considered invalid and around 500 NOTA votes were contested. The postal ballot vote was 252.
