YouTube adds a new member to its Supers family -- Super Thanks: What it means for users, creators and eligibility - Times of India

YouTube has added a new member to its Super family — Super Thanks. The fourth Paid Digital Good Super Thanks will offer creators another way to earn money while also allowing them to strengthen their relationship with viewers.
What exactly is Super Thanks
Super Thanks provides a new way to viewers of YouTube videos express their gratitude and show support to their favourite creators. It ensures that viewers can show their love and support while watching a video — without interrupting their viewing by buying Super Thanks. These fans will then see an animated GIF and, as an added bonus, get a distinct, colorful comment to highlight their purchase, which creators can respond to. Super Thanks is currently available at four price points between $2 and $50 (or local currency equivalent).
The feature adds to other ways that the platform offers creators to make money on YouTube — from running ads and selling merchandise to channel memberships and beyond. The Google-owned video platform recently intreduced applause feature that allows fans to show support for their favorite YouTube channels. The other similar features are Super Chat launched in 2017 and Super Stickers in 2019.
YouTube claims that it has been beta testing the Super Thanks feature over the past year. It partnered with creators to test this feature and gather feedback to inform and shape the experience. “In fact, while beta testing Super Thanks, psychic intuitive Nicholas Ashbaugh was able to generate a new revenue stream—one that now accounts for nearly 15% of his revenue—by tapping this new way to recognize and engage with his most active fans,” wrote Barbara Macdonald, Product Manager, Paid Digital Goods, YouTube, in a blog post.
Super Thanks global availability
Super Thanks feature is available to creators and viewers in 68 countries on desktop and mobile devices (both Android and Apple iOS platforms). Creators can check if they have early access. The company said that it will be expanding the availability to all eligible creators in the YouTube Partner Program later this year.
Super Thanks is not available for the following types of videos:
* Age-restricted
* Unlisted
* Private
* Made for kids
* Videos with Content ID claims
* Videos with YouTube Giving fundraisers
* Live streams or Premieres, while live (available on archived VODs afterwards)
