The Polish Football Association said on Monday that Robert Lewandowski would miss Poland’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against England with a right knee injury. Bayern Munich suffered an injury during a 3–0 win over Andorra in Warsaw on Sunday in which they scored two goals but had to leave the field in the 63rd minute.
The statement said, “It usually takes between five and 10 days to heal with such an injury. So Robert Lewandowski will return to the club.
The absence of Lewandowski is a setback for Poland, who will be counting their star striker in what is arguably the most difficult match of their qualifying campaign against England.
Poland currently sit third in Group I on four points, two in Gareth Southgate’s leaders and a 3-3 draw in Budapest and Hungary are second after Sunday’s win.
Lewandowski has scored three times in those two matches, twice against Andorra and a fiery late leveler against Hungary.
Bayern initially said that the 32-year-old would not be left to play in the match at Wembley on Wednesday, but changed his mind due to a change in Germany’s Kövid-19 travel restrictions.
The reigning European champions will be hoping to return in time for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals with Paris Saint-Germans, which will be played at the Allianz Arena in Bayern on 7 April.
Lewandowski is hoping to break Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga record of 40 goals in a single season, as he plays eight league games in a total of 35 leagues.

The Polish side is already vulnerable to coronavirus infections.
In the last few days, two players, midfielder Matus Klich and backup goalkeeper Lucas Skorpsky, have tested positive.
