The Uran police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old childless woman for kidnapping a three-month-old baby.
The woman, who hails from Jalna and hails from Jasai, Orai with her husband, often visited Navghar, where she kept a bank account.
During his visits, he had seen a house, which contained an infant.
At around 11 am on Monday, she reached the boy’s mother and said that she was from Anganwadi and inquired if the child had been given a dose of polio.
“The woman asked the mother to prepare her three-year-old daughter while she would take care of the boy.” After the mother went inside, the accused ran away with the boy, ”said Ravindra Budhwant, senior police inspector at Uran police station.
On finding her son missing, the mother contacted the Uran police, who, with the help of CCTV footage, traced the accused to Khanda Colony within six hours.
He said, “From Uran to Panvel, we alerted all the police teams. We saved the boy in the evening and handed him over to his mother. The accused confessed that since she was childless for 10 years, she wanted a child and hence she decided to kidnap a child, ”said Mr. Budhwant.
The woman will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
