The Wimbledon chiefs ruled on Friday that players in this year’s tournament should stay in official hotels as coronovirus control measures. The All England Club is determined to reduce the risks of the incident, which was canceled for the first time since World War Two last year. The decision may not bode well with some players, who prefer to rent private homes in London for the Grand Slam. “In line with UK government and public health guidance, we are taking a variety of infection control measures in 2021 in line with our aspiration for a safe, best practice and reliable event,” an All England Club statement said.

“One of the priority measures is to create the least risky environment for the players.

“As such, based on current guidance, there will be official hotels for all players, their support teams and key groups such as officials, which will be a mandatory requirement for entry into this year’s championship.”

Wimbledon is scheduled to begin on 28 June, a week after which the government plans to lift all legal limits on social interaction.

Any decision on the potential spectator potential for the championship will depend on the confirmation of the government’s position at the time of the start of the event.

This year’s Australian Open took place under very controlled conditions. Several participants, including men’s number one Novak Djokovic, took issue with the quarantine system.
