Former Union Minister and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Chinta Mohan said on Saturday that the Congress party is committed to making Tirupati the state capital if elected to power.
Dr. Mohan was campaigning for a by-election for Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency in Srikalahasti and Satyaveed constituencies. Speaking to the media at Srikalahasti, Drs. Mohan said that the by-election for Tirupati Lok Sabha will determine the fate of Tirupati’s development.
He said that adequate water resources, availability of one lakh acres of land in and around Tirupati, presence of several educational institutions and international airport make the city suitable as the state capital.
“In 2013, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh responded positively to the demand to make Tirupati the capital of a bifurcated state. The UPA government had also promised special category status. Unfortunately, the NDA government had cheated the people, ”he said.
Dr. “The Tirupati by-election will mark a major battle between the two forces, one of which is against the privatization of public sector units, and the other is committed to curbing the dangers of privatization,” Mohan said.
Criticizing the Amma Vodi scheme of the YSR Congress Party government, Drs. Mohan said that the scheme expelled about five lakh teachers from private schools, while around 50,000 private schools were in danger of closure. He said that about 25 persons belonging to private schools had already committed suicide unable to bear the financial stress.
The former minister said that to win the Tirupati by-election, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had deputed seven ministers to manage each of the seven assembly segments. “Instead, Mr. Jagan should seek seven advocates to fight for him in the courts,” he said.
