Metrowman E. Sreedharan, making his election debut almost on the BJP banner here on Friday, said he would transform Palakkad into the best city in the state in two years and the best in the country in five years.
The BJP is yet to announce its candidates in the state. Mr. Sreedharan visited the BJP District Office here and District President E. along with the party leaders. Discussed with Krishnadas. He also visited the Vadakanthara Bhagwati temple here.
Mr. Sreedharan believed in winning the election in Palakkad. “I am confident of victory. My age is not an issue. In fact, experience comes with age. This is an advantage, ”he told reporters here on Friday.
The fact that the Palakkad municipality is ruled by the BJP with a clear majority has added to Sreedharan’s trust. “We have skilled workers here. I studied and grew up in Palakkad. This is not a strange place for me.
Sabarimala issue
Referring to the regret of Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran on the Sabarimala issue, Mr. Sreedharan said that there is no point in weeping milk spills. But he wondered if Mr. Surendran regretted it. He said that the government has hurt the sentiments of millions of people by allowing women to enter Sabarimala.
He said that his aim was the development of land, not trivial issues like Sabarimala. “Our country needs industry. There will be no financial progress without industry.
He said that he is entering the development track and not in politics. Mr. Sreedharan discussed the chances of victory in Palakkad with BJP leaders. They will have to take on the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in a triangular fight in Palakkad. LDF has fielded CP Pramod in Palakkad. The UDF is yet to be declared its candidate.
Palakkad was alternately represented by the UDF since 1957 and the LDF in the Legislative Assembly. Outgoing Shafi Parambil of UDF has been a MLA from Palakkad since 2011. He defeated BJP’s Sobha Surendran by 17,483 votes in 2016.
The BJP is fielding Mr. Sreedharan here in Palakkad to consider its possible vote share. In 2016, the BJP had a vote share of 29.08%. The BJP leadership says that it has improved its vote share.
