West Indies’ newly appointed Test captain Craig Brathwaite called it a “privilege” to take over the reins from Jason Holder, who remains a key member of the side. Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Friday that Brathwaite would be the captain of the West Indies Test replacing Holder. Brathwaite, who has previously led the team in seven Tests for Holder, recently became the 37th Test captain of the West Indies, including a 2–0 Test series win over Bangladesh.

Ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Brathwaite commended Holder for his services to the West Indies in recent years.

“I just want to thank God for giving me this opportunity, and also want to say that I felt that Jason Holder has led the Test team for the last five years, so obviously taking the position from him is a privilege is.” ESPNcricinfo Braithwaite is quoted as saying.

“I was very happy [to be made captain]Obviously, very proud, and I look forward to the challenge, ”he said.

Last month, after a tough performance in the white-ball format, the West Indies gave a clean-sweep to Bangladesh in the Test series, with some notable performances from the audience.

Brathwaite, who captained the West Indies in the Test series, said he ensured that players always believe in their abilities and have a winning attitude.

Brathwaite said, “I was really enjoying that tour. For me, I just made sure that I let people believe in themselves and believe in their potential.”

“I’ve played youth cricket with most of those guys, and if not, first-class cricket for many years, so I know their potential. Just assured them that they could do it.

He said, “Just believe in your plans and believe in them, and prepare well. The word attitude is always important, and I think we’ve done that well, and the same attitude as the team for us It is important to continue, ”he said.

There are many players in the Test team who recently competed in the 2–0 winning Test series in Bangladesh.

Two senior players who did not play in the Bangladesh series, all-rounder Holder and left-handed batsman Darren Bravo, are back in the Test squad, which will be led by Brathwaite.
