The size and scope of the 67-game NCAA tournament is too much for any one network to handle on its own. So in April 2010 the NCAA reached a 14-year, $ 10.8 billion deal with CBS and Turner Broadcasting Systems to give broadcast rights to the tournament to both networks. AT&T agreed to buy Time Warner in 2016 and effectively dissolve Turner Broadcasting Systems by spreading its assets to WarnerMedia in 2019.
Turner Sports – a subsidiary of WarnerMedia’s entertainment division that includes TBS, TNT and TruTV – will make up the majority of the 2021 NCAA tournament broadcasts. Turner Sports will air 43 of CBS’s 24 games.
