West Indies beat Sri Lanka in the first ODI (ODI) on Wednesday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. While it was a clinical performance from the West Indies, there was one incident that snatched all the spotlight – the run-out of Sri Lankan opener Danushka Gunathilaka. In the 21st over, Gunathilaka defended a ball from Kieron Pollard, batting on 55 and taking one but changed his mind and as he was trying to get back into his crease, the Sri Lankan batsman hit the ball. Pushed away from Captain of the West Indies. Pollard was disheartened and pleaded against Gunatilaka to obstruct the field.
The on-field umpire went upstairs to check in with the TV umpire and after watching a few replays, he ruled in favor of fielding.
