West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday filed her nomination from Nandigram to contest the assembly elections.
Ms. Banerjee was in the office of Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Haldia, along with Trinamool Congress state president Subrata Bakshi.
Before submitting the nomination, he did a roadshow for the SDO office for about a kilometer. Thousands of people took part in the event, who saw posters with new slogans of Trinamool Congress. “Tea in Bungalow Nijer ” (Bengal wants her daughter). Earlier in the day, the Trinamool president visited a temple in Nandigram.
“Nandigram is not a new place for me. When Nandigram was vulnerable to violence, many brave leaders of Medinipur did not come out of their homes. But I was always there, ”Ms. Banerjee said while taking a sarcasm at political rival Suvendu Adhikari.
The Chief Minister said that she always dreamed of contesting from Singur or Nandigram, both of which are synonymous with the fight against forcible land acquisition.
Nandigram contest is the flagship in West Bengal, Ms. Banerjee contested against Mr. Adhikari, a former BJP ally.
Mr. Adhikari also held a rally in Nadigram and said that he would file his nomination on 12 March. The assembly seat located in Purbia Medinipur will go to the polls on 1 April.
