Amid the ongoing agitation against 100% strategic sale of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), a letter written by an employee of the plant, threatening to end his life by jumping into one of the furnaces at the plant, made quite a lot On Saturday, there was a flutter here. But after a quick investigation by the police, it was revealed that there was a different story to it.
A letter written by Srinivasa Rao claimed that he was taking extreme steps in protest against the decision of the central government and the letter went viral on social media. It put plant, management, CISF and police personnel on tenterhooks throughout the day. But after an investigation by the police team led by ACP (South) Penta Rao, the sequence of events leads to an alleged job fraud case.
As per the investigation, it was revealed that Srinivasa Rao, who is still missing, is working as a foreman in the WRM (wire rod mill) unit and attended a night shift on Friday. In addition, he made an entry to leave the unit in the attendance sheet at around 6.30 am on Saturday.
He left behind his phone, wallet and other items at his workplace. He also left a suicide note in the unit’s logbook. According to steel plant officials, it is not possible for anyone to jump into the furnace.
Further investigation revealed that Srinivas Rao had made some calls between 10 am and 11 pm on Friday.
According to the police, upon verification of the above numbers, it was revealed that he had taken ₹ 12 lakh and ₹ 38 lakh from two persons to ensure jobs at RINL and Naval Dockyard. He also informed the callers that the results for the Dockyard selected candidates will come out on Friday night.
It has come to light that under the guise of giving employment, some more people can also be cheated. Sri Srinivasa Rao is yet to be traced and further investigations are on.
The importance of the suicide note increased when all trade unions with VSP employees held a mega meeting on Saturday evening at the Trishna Maidan in Basti.
