VSP activists supported KTR, Chiranjeevi and Subramanian Swamy

Appeal to KCR

Leaders of the Visakhapatnam enclave Porata Committee thanked Shri Rama Rao for his father and the Chief Minister of Telangana. Also sought the support of Chandrashekhar Rao.

He demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government take proactive steps to resolve the issue, citing the support extended by the Telangana leader.

‘Symbol of sacrifice’

Meanwhile, Mr. Chiranjeevi took to Twitter to express his support for the movement by VSP employees.

“The Visakhapatnam steel plant is a symbol of many sacrifices. Let us rise above parties and regions. With steely resolve, let’s save the Visakhapatnam steel plant, ”he tweeted.

Mr. Chiranjeevi recalled how, as a student of YNM College in Narasapur, he used to write: ‘Visakhapatnam Udakidham’ (We will get the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant).

He said, ‘We participated in the Hurtl, Dharna and Relay hunger strike. About 32 persons, including a nine-year-old boy, sacrificed themselves in the movement. When the steel plant started production, we all celebrated. We recognize the steel plant as a symbol of sacrifice. We take pride in the fact that Visakhapatnam has a unique place in the country, ”he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi also tweeted that the failure to allocate the plant to closed mines was to blame for its losses, and the decision to privatize it was that the losses from it were not acceptable. He urged the Center to reconsider its decision to privatize the plant, which was directly and indirectly providing livelihood to millions of families.

Chiranjeevi said, “It is our prime responsibility to save the VSP, and it should remove regional and political differences.”

Meanwhile, TDP MLA Gunta Srinivasa Rao thanked Mr. Rama Rao and Mr. Subramanian Swamy for supporting the movement by VSP staff.

The demands

Earlier in the day, the Porata committee gave notice of the strike on the VSP management. The committee said it would launch a strike on or after March 25.

Commit sought to revoke the approval approved by CCEA on January 27, 2021 for 100% strategic sale of RINL. It also demanded a group of inter-secretaries formed to study strategic sales, and JVC for the construction of a joint steel plant to sign a memorandum of understanding with POSCO on October 23, 2019. The committee also called for the suspension of the recently concluded MoU with the NDCC and considered the redevelopment and demonetization of land parcels in Maddilapalem. It also demanded that all left R-card holders be provided employment.
