Vodafone Idea lost over 18 lakh subscribers; Reliance Jio adds 47 lakh plus new users: Trai – morningtidings

NEW DELHI: Vodafone Idea has lost the maximum subscribers in April 2021 followed by BSNL and MTNL. As per the latest Telecom Subscription Data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), Vodafone Idea lost 18,10, 620 subscribers while BSNL and MTNL lost 13,02,776 and 2,765 subscribers in April 2021. On the other hand, both Airtel and Reliance Jio saw growth in subscriber base.
Reliance Jio added 47,56,340 new subscribers while Airtel welcomed 5,17,237 new users. Trai in its report said that India got 21,57,112 new mobile subscribers. It also highlighted that 89.80% of mobile subscribers belong to private telcos like Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea while just 10.20% subscribers use BSNL and MTNL services.
“Total wireless subscribers increased from 1,180.96 million at the end of March-21 to 1,183.11 million at the end of April-21, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.18%,” said Trai.
It also added that wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 645.20 million at the end of March21 to 645.62 million at the end of April-21 and wireless subscription in rural areas also increased from 535.75 million to 537.49 million during the same period.
9.67 million submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in the month of April 2021. “With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 576.67 million at the end of March-21 to 586.33 million at the end of April-21, since implementation of MNP,” it said.
Assam added the maximum mobile subscribers in India with a growth of 1.05% in its wireless subscriber base during April 2021 followed by Kerala, West Bengal, UP (East) and UP (West).
The report further added that as on 30 April, 2021, the top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd (427.67 million), Bharti Airtel (190.99 million), Vodafone Idea (122.53 million), BSNL (18.49 million) and Tikona Infinet Ltd. (0.32 million).
As far as wired broadband providers are concerned, the top five Wired Broadband Service providers were BSNL (6.03 million), Bharti Airtel (3.19 million), Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (2.80 million), Atria Convergence Technologies (1.87 million) and Hathway Cable & Datacom (1.08 million).
