Tiruchi
The central region on Sunday registered 158 new cases of COVID-19, out of which 73 were from Thanjavur district. Three deaths – one each from Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Thanjavur.
A 64-year-old woman from Nagapattinam with hypertension, a 69-year-old man from Thanjavur with no pre-existing condition and a 56-year-old female diabetic from Pudukottai succumbed to COVID-19.
In Thanjavur, 73 patients tested positive for COVID-19, many of whom had contacts with patients from various schools and colleges in the district. 25 out of 73 were students of a school in Kumbakonam. So far, more than 150 students in the district have given positive reports. Meanwhile, 66 patients were sent home after recovery.
A spike was reported in Thiruvarur district with 26 fresh cases, and 21 in Tiruchira.
Nineteen fresh cases were reported in Nagapattinam. In Karur district, eight patients tested positive and five in Pudukottai. Ariyalur registered four fresh cases while Perambalur recorded two.
