Mr. Gandhi cited a media report citing a UNICEF study that due to COVID-19, India is likely to see the highest increase in child mortality and maternal deaths among the six most populous South Asian countries.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that lakhs of families have been in pain due to the government’s “incompetence and myopia” as unplanned lockouts continue in the country.
To prevent the spread of coronaviruses, the government imposed a nationwide lockout on March 24 last year.
Mr. Gandhi has been attacking the government for the lockout, saying that the poor and the migrants have suffered.
“The unplanned lockdown disaster continues to haunt the country,” he said on Twitter.
“Condolences to lakhs of families are being punished by the inefficiency of the Government of India and indescribable suffering for myopia,” he said.
