China’s first and only UFC champion, Zhang Weili, is agitating for her second shot of the coronovirus vaccine, as she wants preparations not to be interrupted to defend her title. The 30-year-old placed his straightweight belt on the line for the second time on April 24 at UFC 261 in Florida, facing Rose “Thug” Namjun. Zhang claimed a 21–1 win-loss MMA record, stating that a vaccine against coronavirus was the first shot but not yet the second required for full effectiveness.
“I had no reaction to the first shot, but those who shot the second said that there would be a response,” said Zhang, speaking to AFP via video call from his training base in Beijing.
“This will affect my training and it may mean that there is no training for three consecutive days. So I did not dare to have someone else come.”
Given the high rate of infection in the United States, Zhang is still weighing whether she has a second dose before traveling next month. Only Chinese-made coronavirus vaccines are available in China.
Zhang became China’s first UFC champion in 2019, then ignited her rapidly growing reputation with a thrilling win against Joanna Zdrejeski in Las Vegas in March 2020.
The ferocious dust was regarded as the battle of the year, before the epidemic examined its speed.
Ultimate Fighting Championship chief Dana White has sworn that there will be a full crowd in Jacksonville for UFC 261 despite the threat of coronoviruses.
Zhang is in a mood full of confidence, promising to have another vigorous fight against the US-born Namjunas, a former straightweight champion.
But given the opportunity to guess what punishment he would serve at the age of 28, the Chinese fighter only said that it would be an “amazing” bout.
He used a Chinese proverb, which underscored his respect for namaz.
“From the exchange of blows, friendship grows,” said Zhang, who favors him because of his superior power by the bookies.
“I think it’s a wonderful thing. In fact, if you want me to talk to him, I really don’t know how.

“But he definitely wants to win, and so do I. So let’s see who gives lessons – who is a teacher and who is a student.”
“This will be evident in the octagon.”
