The Udupi Sri Krishna Math will use solar energy to illuminate the mute within a month.
Addressing presspersons in Udupi on Friday, the manager of Perayya Adam Math Govindaraj said that Mutation will install a solar power unit of 135 kW capacity at an estimated cost of ₹ 60 lakh. This will be in accordance with the environmentally friendly measures taken by the Pyarea Drishta Ishapriya Tirtha.
He said that when this project is commissioned, the project will save 18 lakhs about the annual electricity bill for using grid electricity. Now, Mute spends ₹ 24 lakhs annually. “Average daily solar power generation will be 600 to 750 units,” he said.
The solar panel will be installed in an area of 12,000 square feet above the Rajangana Hall adjacent to the Sri Krishna Math. Installation of the panels will begin from Monday and work is expected to be completed by 10 April.
“Karnataka Bank has assured to provide 1/3 of the total estimated cost. Devotees can also participate through donations, ”he said. Orb Energy will install the solar panel and maintain it through a battery of experts. Balakrishna Acharya, assistant general manager of Orb Energy, said that the return on investment is expected in four years.
