Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has been in an almost permanent position against the LDF government since 2016.
Now, Mr. Chennithala will probably have to make a delicate case to lead the future UDF government if the Congress high command mandates it.
Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was contesting the assembly elections, did not lose political significance in the Chennithala camp.
Apart from this, the Congress has not made anyone the chief ministerial candidate. In contrast, the LDF has nominated Pinarayi Vijayan as its chief minister if voted for a second consecutive term.
Taking time out from the schedule of a busy campaign, Mr. Chennithala told Hindu A UDF victory was inevitable.
Sabarimala Ayyappa was a blot in the minds of devotees. His pain will be seen in the assembly elections. The government appeared to be wildly apologetic about its ham-fade attempt to implement a 2018 Supreme Court ruling that allowed women entry.
However, the LDF was not prepared to revoke the already dubious affidavit, which gave the Supreme Court majority verdict in the first place.
RSS thinker. Balashankar spotlighted the CPI (M) -BJP axis. Secret alliances expanded throughout the state. The issues that Mr. Chennithala raised as Leader of the Opposition still resonate among voters. It also made him the target of big business.
In every disaster, the LDF deemed an opportunity to indulge in corruption. At the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic, it allowed a large data analytics firm in the US to have personal medical information of Keralites.
Due to corruption, the Chief Minister’s Office got entangled in the UAE gold smuggling case. The scandal had put the government in a cloud of suspicion.
At the end of his tenure, the LDF sought permission to a foreign fishing firm to exploit the state’s maritime wealth at an industrial level. The fishermen rose in rebellion against the plan. The UDF led the protests. The government backtracked.
Mr. Chennithala said that there were nearly two lakh LDF sympathizers for double or triple votes in the assembly elections. The nefarious actors in the government had given many voter ID cards to LDF workers and their families.
They used names and incorrect addresses created to register the same person as voters at several booths in the same constituency. “I have petitioned the Chief Election Commissioner. An investigation is underway. I hope the authorities to purge the bogus voters from the electoral list, ”he said.
Mr. Chennithala said that he had never thought of leaving Haripad. He had deep roots in the constituency. “It’s an emotional bond,” he said.
