Twitter said it is a “review” for world leaders because it wants its policies to be relevant to the changing nature of political discourse on the platform and protect the health of public interactions.
Twitter has sought public opinion on whether world leaders should be similar to the rules of others on the micro-blogging platform and appropriate enforcement action should be taken in case of violation of norms by them.

“Generally, we want to hear from the public whether they believe that world leaders should be subject to the same rules as others on Twitter. And, should a world leader violate a rule, what kind of enforcement action is appropriate, ”the micro-blogging platform said in a blogpost.
Starting on Friday, Twitter will seek feedback for a public survey that will help define the policy framework. The survey will close on 12 April.
The questionnaire will be available in 14 languages - Hindi, English, Arabic, Chinese, Persian, French, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Urdu.
Twitter reported that it is in the process of consulting with a range of human rights experts, civil society organizations and academics around the world, whose response will be reflected in upcoming changes to the policy framework.
“We want to serve the public discourse and allow the public to hear and connect with leaders around the world. Ultimately, our aim is to have a policy that properly balances fundamental human rights and considers the global context we operate.
Twitter, Facebook and other platforms have come under the lens globally for the way global leaders, and politicians treat accounts. It is pertinent to mention here that Twitter banned Donald Trump’s account in January following the siege of US Capitol Hill.
