Twitter Fleets News: Twitter is shutting down ‘Fleets’ within one year of launch | – morningtidings

Last year in November, Twitter introduced a feature called ‘Fleets’, popularised by Snapchat and then adopted by Instagram as Stories. Within a year of the launch of Fleets, Twitter feels that Fleets has no future and has announced that it is shutting down Fleets starting August 3, 2021. The social media platform also said that instead of Fleets it will introduce “other ways for people to share on Twitter”
“We had big hopes for Fleets, but now it’s time to say goodbye and take flight with other ideas. Starting August 3, Fleets will no longer be available…We had planned for Fleets to help people feel comfortable joining the conversation in a low-pressure way, but it turns out Fleets were mainly used by those Tweeting the most. So now we’re ready to explore other ways for people to share on Twitter,” said Twitter.
Twitter admitted that not many users were interested in Fleets. “We haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped,” it said in a blog post.
Commenting about what comes next after Fleets, Twitter said, “Most Fleets include media – people enjoy quickly sharing photos and videos to add to the discussion on Twitter. Soon, we’ll test updates to the Tweet composer and camera to incorporate features from the Fleets composer – like the full-screen camera, text formatting options, and GIF stickers.”
Meanwhile, Twitter also said that the top of the timeline has important screen estate and it may offer something new. “The top of the timeline continues to be a good spot to highlight what’s happening right now so you’ll still see Spaces there when someone you follow is hosting or speaking in a live audio conversation,” it added.
